Enterprise AI: Keys to its Adoption and Utility

La IA empresarial: claves para su adopción y utilidad

Business artificial intelligence (AI) is an under-adopted reality in some regions of the world. In Spain, for example, by 2023 only 11% of companies had integrated AI and big data processing technologies into their decision-making systems. It is no coincidence that the most globally competitive companies tend to incorporate AI into their processes.

Enterprise AI involves integrating technologies that process heterogeneous data sets to improve business functions. But how do we overcome the reluctance to adopt AI in the enterprise environment? The reluctance to adopt AI can be overcome if it is understood within a realistic framework of its capabilities and limitations. The usefulness of AI is measured by its ability to achieve objectives, which is associated with the optimization of mathematical functions that model business processes. The accuracy of this representation depends on the quality and volume of the data. More complex processes require more data and varied sources for an adequate representation, although accuracy depends not only on the volume but also on the quality of the data.

AI cannot replace human intuition and common sense in decision making, but this does not make it useless. To take full advantage of AI, you need an accurate representation of the process to be modeled, i.e., sufficient and quality data, as well as a clear and measurable objective, and a proper implementation strategy, including the correct selection of algorithms and their parameterization. In conclusion, AI can uncover hidden patterns in data, helping to make more accurate, informed and agile decisions.
